Sangita Mistry
Sangita Mistry is a BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists) and HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered art psychotherapist, with experience working with local authorities, national charities and international projects.
Sangita studied psychology as an undergraduate, photography at masters level and achieved a distinction in her Level 7 masters degree in art psychotherapy. Sangita has over 20 years’ experience of working with children, young people and families in a range of roles. Her research dissertation looked at how we can use art therapy to explore issues of identity.
As well as private practice at the Heaton Moor Counselling and Therapy Centre, Sangita currently works for a charity, with clients experiencing illness and loss.
Art therapy uses visual, sculptural and photographic media to allow individuals to give voice to feelings that we may not have words for. Art making can help process difficult thoughts, on a deeper level. Sessions are used to explore, experiment and play, to make sense of feelings and reflect on the challenges we may be facing in our lives. Art therapy can be used to create a safe place to explore difficult issues in a non-judgmental way. It can help us increase self-esteem, reduce stress, encourage personal growth, provide self-understanding, resolve internal emotional conflict and improve interpersonal skills.
To access art therapy, you do not need any experience or expertise in creating art. It is open to anyone willing to engage with art materials as an alternative way to think about the world.
Sangita supports individuals who are looking to explore issues around cultural identity, sexuality, historical trauma, life changing illness, loss and people who are feeling ‘stuck’ and looking to set objectives for a more fulfilling life.
Sangita charges £50 per hour for individual therapy.
Prices for family based therapeutic work on request. All materials will be provided during sessions.
